PinPlate ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

Information We Collect

When you use PinPlate, we collect the following:

• Account information: Your email address and display name when you sign in with Apple.
• Restaurant data: The restaurants you save, including names, cuisine types, locations, and source URLs from TikTok or Instagram.
• Location data: If you grant permission, your approximate location is used to show trending restaurants near you. We do not store your precise location.
• Usage data: Basic app activity such as when you save or delete restaurants.

How We Use Your Information

• To provide and improve the PinPlate service
• To show you trending restaurants near your location
• To sync your restaurant collection across devices
• To respond to support requests

Third-Party Content & Social Media Links

PinPlate allows users to submit links to publicly available content on third-party platforms such as TikTok and Instagram. When a link is submitted:

• We use AI to extract factual restaurant information (name, location, cuisine type) from the post. We do not store the original video or post content.
• Thumbnail images associated with a post may be temporarily mirrored to our servers solely for display purposes within the app.
• PinPlate is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by TikTok, Instagram, or their parent companies.
• Users are responsible for ensuring that any links they submit are to publicly accessible content. Do not submit links to private or restricted posts.

PinPlate does not claim ownership of any content originating from third-party platforms. If you believe content has been processed in error, contact us at our support page.

Third-Party Services

PinPlate uses the following third-party services:

• Supabase: Secure database and authentication provider. Your data is stored on Supabase servers.
• Sign in with Apple: For authentication only. We do not receive your passwords.
• Google Places API: Used to look up restaurant addresses and coordinates when you save a spot.
• Anthropic (Claude AI): Used to extract restaurant details from social media posts. Post content is processed but not stored by Anthropic beyond the request.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. Restaurants you save may be aggregated (without personal identification) to power the Trending feature, which shows how many times a restaurant has been saved by users in an area.

Data Retention & Account Deletion

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. You can delete your account directly within the app — go to the Profile tab and select "Delete Account." This permanently removes your account and all associated data, including saved restaurants and folders. You may also request deletion by contacting us at our support page.

Location Permissions

PinPlate requests "When in Use" location access to show you trending restaurants nearby. You can revoke this permission at any time in your device's Settings. The app functions normally without location access — the Trending tab will simply not be available.

Children's Privacy

PinPlate is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page.
